Nightmares

Link was having a nightmare, in it he was running, from who or what he did not know, he
felt it nonetheless, it's dark presence coming closer and closer, like a huge fiendish creature devouring anything unlucky enough to stand in the way of it's  furious and brutal rampage. No matter what it was he did not look back, did not dare, just had to keep running, faster,as fast as he could, but the presence was just coming closer, he realized that no matter how fast he ran, it would still catch up with him. He stopped, gasping deeply for air, muscles sending out streams of pain up through his legs and up to his torso. He saw it now, closing in all around him, a thick dark fog like a drape made out of stitched together shadows. Link felt both hot and cold at the same time and when he tried to draw in another breath, he found himself unable to do so, as the fog just kept creeping in, blocking out hearing and sight. Link felt panic rise up in the toes of his feet, up his legs, his torso and finally up his spine and into his head and landing there pushing on the back of his eyes. The mist was choking him, it was slowly strangling him from the inside of his throat, invading his eyes, ears, nose and mouth.
He felt his world starting to spin, legs giving way beneath him and dropping him hard to the ground. Struggling to get up, still trying to breath through suffocating lungs he started hearing something, whispers, from everywhere, wounded horrible dark voices speaking in tongues, yelling, screaming... laughing. Then, like a ray of sunlight in the middle of a dark horrible night, a glint of light appeared in the middle of the thick darkness. As he watched, the glint started to expand, penetrating and swallowing up the dark fog, pushing the horrible whispers and the weight on his throat away. In the middle of the radiant light a pitch dark figure was standing, raising a hand and pointing towards Link. The light around the figure only grew brighter, eliminating all darkness around and kept on expanding afterwards until there was nothing to see but white.

Link opened his eyes, letting out a slight groan as he sat up. He realized right away
that he wasn't in the fields of Hyrule anymore, he was back in his house in kokiri forest.
He was sitting up in his bed looking himself over, he saw that he had returned to his child-self again. His equipment, sword, shield, ocarina etc were gone. Never had he been more confused than he was at that moment, was it all just... Everything he had gone through, his quest, the sages, Navi...Zelda. Had it all just been a dream? If it was then how long had he been asleep, what ha-
"Link", a familiar voice called out, a voice that he had heard so many times before, Saria?
"Come to me, Link" Link got up and walked out the door.

The village remained just the way he remembered it, however there was something amiss,
there was no one around. All around him it was quiet, too quiet he thought. Where were the know-it-all brothers, Mido, anyone...
Links thoughts flew over to Saria, was she still around, he had heard her voice just moments earlier, or was that too just a thought? He strained his ears to listen. "Link",
there it was again, closer this time. "Where are you, come to me Link" It was coming from the villages spring. He climbed down the wooden ladder to his house and made his way towards the voice, "Link". He stopped, Saria was sitting by the spring, running her slender hand through the clear cool surface of the water. When Link took another step closer she turned her head up to look at him, her eyes meeting his, she smiled. She was as pretty as always, emerald green hair, clear blue eyes, that warm welcoming smile, a laugh on her lips. No wonder Mido is so grumpy about the fact that she chosed to be with Link rather than him, she was the most beautiful thing in the whole forest, maybe all of the world too. But of course, she could never become Midos, she was his, not only as friend, no, maybe more. She stood up now, looking at him, as if awaiting his next decision. Links own smile widened as he stepped closer, completely transported back to the time before everything, the tragedy of the Deku tree, Ganondorf's evil plans, all the pain and destruction, he didn't have to worry anymore. He was home now, no need to care about the fate of Hyrule or the fate of others, just go back and live his careless and innocent childhood with Saria, the way he had intended to. He ran towards Saria now, opening up his arms, laughing all the way as. Saria remained where she was, not moving an inch. Then, just when everything he wished was about to become reality, he stopped. Mouth open and eyes wide he stared dumb founded at Saria who was still smiling. Looking down slowly, he saw the huge dark blade she had stabbed him with, the blade too, familiar, like a darker version of the master sword. The blade which in this state was as big as him and Saria had penetrated his chest and gone through his back, blood was soaking his green clothing, hot, fresh and steaming, turning green into damp dark red. with a devilish
smirk Saria pulled the blade back with the right hand which she was holding it in, blood spurted recklessly like a red fountain from his chest, he dropped to his knees. He tried to say something, ask why Saria could have done such a thing, but he was cut off when he saw that Saria was changing, her vibrant young skin started turning ashen grey, dead and horrid. Her emerald green hair turning silvery grey, her pretty blue eyes turning the same colour as the blood that was spurting from his chest. Her smile was hooking up in a wicked, disturbing grin. He saw how that horrible grin opened up to let out a dark sinister gurgling sound which resembled laughter. "Pitiful" she said, in the same dark inhuman voice which fitted her new dark features, that horrible grin still covering her mouth. "Pathetic little child, what could possibly make you think you could be the chosen one?" Darkness was rolling in, from everywhere at once, just as dark and horrible as the grinning creature standing in front of him, it just kept talking as Link did what he could to cover the huge hole in his chest. "Power, wisdom, courage, you have neither of them, you are nothing but a lost orphan, lost and forgotten in a dark, cruel world..." Sarias mouth kept going up and down, forming words, but he could not hear her anymore, he was starting to hear other voices now, whispers. From all around him, he could hear the voices of his friends of the village, whispering, laughing, cursing, repeating Sarias words. As the voices went on, he watched how Saria raised the
sword, preparing a final blow to his head. Link did not move, tears, snot and blood was leaking from his eyes, nose and mouth. His whole world had fallen apart, everything that he loved, everyone, it was ruined. He closed his eyes, awaing the inevitable. Then, out of nowhere, like a huge canon blowing a hole through the horrible things he was experiencing, another deep dark voice entered his mind, "SHADOWS LURK FROM WITHIN" it said, and was gone just as quickly. His eyes opened up and he saw the dark master sword fall over him.

With a scream, Link woke up. Epona who was lying next to him got up neighing in surprise. Link quickly rose to consciousness and put his hands on both sides of the horses face, calming her down as good as he could, he didn't have to struggle for long before she gave up, probably waking up from her interrupted sleep. Navi had flown out of Links cap and was already hovering next to him.
"Link, what's the matter?" For being asleep and then startled out of it. She was very calm, like a  mother asking her child if he had a bad dream. Link felt a big chunk in his throat and for a moment, unable to find any sense of sharpness or balance which he usually had. He felt tears running down both sides of his chins. He sat down, the fire was almost out, for some reason that just made him feel worse. Epona who still stood next to him lowered her head to his and started licking his chins, he smiled slightly as her muzzle blew hot air in his face. He lifted his right hand and gently ran it up her head, happy for her and Navi's presence, he was in great need of comfort. "So," Navi said, "Are you okay?" Link nodded. "We can talk in the morning if you want to, we still need to get some rest." she said, yawning as she flew back into his cap and was fast asleep. Epona laid down as Link covered her with his blanket, she looked at him for a moment, granting a feeling of security before putting her head down in the soft grass. Link laid down next to her, looking up on the endless dark blue sky, the stars and the moon. Slowly, he lulled himself to sleep, hoping for a dreamless  continued night. Still, that voice popped back in his mind. "Shadows lurk from within", what did it mean, and what was that dark figure in the light, was it a sage? He was too tired to think about it, he just put his head down and was soon back to his previous state.

Shadows lurk from within...
This is an idea I worked on for a while before I went to bed, I thought it turned out okay in my opinion :)
Please do leave a comment (if you have the patience to read that far of course, it is pretty long so I don't blame you xD)
Update: WoW, I've spell checked it seven times now, man I can be careless about my spelling :/
I apologize for the misspellings, but I assure you that most of the errors (I guess) have been taken care of, I'm sorry if confusion has been caused :(
